Humble Subscription Service Shifting to Windows-only

Humble Bundles have been a popular go-to source for building gaming libraries for many gamers. One of the most popular bundle services Humble offers is Humble Choice, a monthly collection of games subscribers can choose a set number of titles from each month.

Humble Choice features several pricing tiers, expanding the available options as the price increased.

One of the benefits of Humble's Choice bundle for Mac and Linux gamers has been the addition of games that support each platform. Unfortunately for Mac and Linux gamers, both the available bundles and supported platforms are about to change.

One Tier to Rule them All

The first of these changes is the elimination of pricing tiers. Instead, subscribers will pay one $11.99 USD (with varied regional pricing) for all of the games selected for the month. This change takes effect on February 1st.

In addition to the Humble Choice games, subscribers are also going to be able to access a new feature called the Humble Games Collection. Using the Humble App (more on this in a moment), subscribers will be able to access a curated library of games available as a bonus while the membership remains active.

Initial game extras include:

  • Forager
  • Wizard of Legend
  • Dodgeball Academia
  • Unsighted
  • Void Bastards

Skipping a month or cancelling your Humble Choice membership results in temporary loss of access to this collection.

Goodbye Mac and Linux

The Humble App is not without its controversy. The app is currently only available to Windows PC users. Linux and MacOS will not support the new app, at least at first.

This is a big shift from the support for these platforms that Humble has boasted since 2010, when it expanded its Humble Indie Bundle offerings to Linux, noting that it found that Linux users voluntarily paid more than Windows users, on average.

Still Plenty of Ways to Be Humble

Humble is about more than just one gaming subscription service. It continues to make discounted games, books, and software bundles and individual titles available to customers through its website.
